Family  Planner

This is a sample itinerary, a little planner to give you an idea of what you can do on your holiday.
For those families who want Disney-style amusement, you will not find this in Oliver.
What you will find are beautiful swimming beaches, fishing lakes, nature-walks, hikes, etc.

We love short, little day trips, so have included a few.

Day-1  (Oliver):
After a long days drive, arrive at the Bel Air.   Enjoy a swim in the pool, then unpack the bags.
Take drive to the information centre, stop for a few groceries. Have a swim, then go out for dinner

This is normally a late-night for the kids, as they've been (are we there yet?) stuck in the car all day.
Take the kids to Oliver Movie Theatre (or bring your lap-top & a few DVD's) to keep the kids happy.
If the kids bring a small tent, we have a grassy space, where they can enjoy a night under the stars

Day-2  (Oliver):
5-minute drive
A relaxing day in Oliver.   Pack a picnic for lunch.
First, take a winery tour in Oliver (ask in advance, to see which are child friendly).
After the winery, go have a swim and enjoy your picnic lunch at the beach (Tuc-el-Nuit Lake).
When when you've had enough, just shake of the sand, and head back to the Bel Air to enjoy cooking an easy BBQ dinner on the patio, and then an evening enjoying a bottle of local wine.

Day-3  (Penticton):
45-minute drive
Head to Penticton.  Bring your tube, and float down the River-channel
This is a good family activity lots of fun, very popular with older children (aged 8-to-70).
The river-tube ride takes about 1-hour.   Note: Younger children (under 8's) may find it boring.
For a small fee, the River-side Bus takes you back to the beginning of the channel (to the car park).
Then dry off & have lunch at a family restaurant, before going for a shop at Cherry-Lane mall.
TIP for the channel:  Bring a rope to tether your inner-tubes together, so you don't float apart.
Bring an extra inner-tube for the picnic cooler, and a zip-lock bag to keep your pool-towel dry.
Don't forget to wear a t-shirt & hat & remember to take the sun cream.

Day-4  (OK Falls):

15-minute drive
Don't forget your swimsuit and sand-bucket.
first, check out the OK-Falls Flea market for a good second-hand bargain (best on sundays).
Then to Skaha Lake (Christie Memorial Beach). A good family swim & picnic.
A lovely beach, not too crowded (& large clean toilets & changing area).
At the end of the beach, is a nice level walkway (good for baby-strollers) along the old railway path.
Fish&chips for dinner in OK Falls, then Tickelberry for Icecream on the way home.

Day-5 (Circle tour:  Oliver-Fairview-Whitelake-Osoyoos-Oliver):
Take an early morning drive, to the Observatory.
Head up Road 2.   Stop at the location of the old Fairview town & gold-mine.
Turn onto Whielake Road.   Pass by Spotted Lake (bring the camera) the name says it all.
Carry on to the
Dominion Radio Observatory (well worth the visit - see above notes).
Carry on along Whitelake Road, past the Pet Cemetery, and come out at the neck of Kaleden.
Follow the 3A, past Twin Lake & Yellow Lakes.
Stop at Olalla to view the Keremeos Columns (but leave any rock climbing to the professionals).
Carry on to the fruit stands & visit the Grist Mill at Keremeos.
From Keremeos follow along Hwy-3 towards Osoyoos.
For a while it gets remote. Keep driving (don't worry, your probably not lost). Stop at the Viewpoint
Drive on (you will pass the Model Railway Centre).  Turn left (at the Husky station) onto Hwy 97 to Oliver (Or head to Osoyoos to enjoy the afternoon at the beach.  A nice way to finish the tour.

Day-6  (Osoyoos):

15-minute drive
Head to Osoyoos Lake for a swim at the beach.
Hire a boat for a ride on Lake Osoyoos (or hire a Jet-Ski).  Sunbathe & Parasail on the beach.
Stop at the "Nk'Mip Desert Cultural Centre" or "Osoyoos Desert Centre", for an interesting time.
Stop in at the Rattle Snake Canyon Arcade, then go for Ice-cream for a fun way to end the day.

Day-7  (Summerland & Peachland):

About a 1-Hour drive
